We’re taking action to address the root causes of food insecurity in Calgary.

The YYC Food Collaborative enhances collaboration among organizations dedicated to improving household food security, dignified food access, and community resilience.

We actively connect emergency food providers, mobilize knowledge on food access, advocate for systemic solutions and generate innovative ideas together.

Why is this needed now?

Chronic food insecurity is rising in our communities.

In 2023, one in four Alberta households experience food insecurity and one in three children live in food insecure households.

HFI + Income-based solutions:

Household Food Insecurity (HFI) is an income issue. The rising costs of housing, energy and transportation are negatively impacting people’s ability to purchase adequate and appropriate foods.

The YYC Food Collaborative is exploring ways to advocate for income-based solutions together.
